Brasstards

Gareth John – Trumpet
As a freelance brass musician and educator, Gareth has been part of an array of projects, from the award-winning East Midlands Youth Jazz Orchestra and Youth Brass 2000 in his youth, to Leicester based band the Deap People, featuring members of the Happy Mondays/Blake Grape. He currently leads the Paradimes, Leicester’s premier original reggae and ska outfit, The Funk soul Collective and is a founder of King Brasstards. As well as playing with The South (formerly The Beautiful South) he has toured Europe and Japan with various bands since becoming a full time musician and bandleader.

Dave Collins- Trumpet
Dave first played the trumpet aged 3 one Christmas in East London 1969. He hasn’t stopped trying to play it since. Dave has had a marvellous time playing in many different bands and orchestras taking him all over Europe.

Dan Monk – Saxophone
Dan started on clarinet at a very young age, and progressed to sax by age of 11. His love of jazz was founded through joining the Leicestershire schools big band. Dan took the Jazz Studies degree at Leeds Colle of Music, and has taken his love of music to the next level, playing bass guitar and keyboards as well, performing at numerous functions and venues throughout the UK. Dan has performed, recorded, and written for various artists such as East Park Reggae Collective, The Brodsky String Quartet, Calder McLaughlin and George Simpson.

Spencer Hague – Trombone
Spencer first picked up the trombone when he was 6 years old. After playing in brass bands up until 16, he then moved on to guitar based bands and joined a rock/soul outfit and playing arena tours around the UK supporting The Specials. He has toured in Tokyo, Japan. He now focuses on session work; recording and performing live with multiple bands across the country as well as becoming one of the founding members of King Brasstards!

Steve Nutter – Sousaphone
Steve is a full time multi-instrumentalist and composer working in many areas of the music business and genres. He plays in a variety of gigging bands including: The South (formerly The Beautiful South), Horace Panters (The Specials) Uptown Ska Collective, and BBC The Voice 2014 runner up Sally Barker. Bands he has performed with include Diesel Park West, Ray Lewis from The Drifters, The Foundations, The Four Tops, Laurel Aitken, The Pioneers and various members of The Specials.

Marv Robinson – Percussion
Marv started out playing drums in punk and indie bands moving on to playing a full percussion set up with club DJs in the 90s. This soon developed into playing regular slots at The Ministry of Sound and in Ibiza at Manumission and Clockwork Orange with DJs including Judge Jules, Brandon Block, Smokin’ Jo, Andy Weatherall and Farley Jackmaster Funk.
