Marquee Stage: Sunday 30 July
The Della Grants are the latest British band to merge blues, rock, and R&B to great effect. The four piece have quickly made a name for themselves among industry professionals and fellow musicians alike for their song writing ability and on stage performances. Guitar, vocals and harmonica are provided by Max Manning and Tom Best respectively, whilst the band is held tightly together by drummer Tom Walker and bassist Andy Boulton. Now in their third year The DG’s are busy touring debut album Time For Change and it’s follow-up EP First Fix. So far the tour has seen them travelling the length and breadth of the UK performing a mixture of headline shows and festival slots.
Time for Change
The album itself consists of ten self-penned tracks and one cover, the Keb Mo’ classic ‘Am I Wrong’, a song lead by Tom Best that the band occasionally perform live. While recording their track Keeping Me Away From You The DG’s were joined by Magnum keyboard player Mark Stanway, who can be heard playing organ throughout the track. The ex Whitesnake man was quick to offer his services to the band whom he’d heard perform at The Robin 2 in Bilston earlier that year.
After the success of Time For Change the band set about writing towards its follow-up in 2015. New material effortlessly came together and the band were able to record the new songs for a release in 2016. The five track EP of original tracks were mastered at Abbey Road Studios before being pressed to CD in March. The EP has proved to be a great success; with its five songs quickly becoming fan favourites.
On The Road
The band have already played alongside some of the industry’s most notable acts including: Canned Heat, Wilko Johnson, Laurence Jones, Nine Below Zero, Chris Jagger, & Dr Feelgood.
While on the road The DG’s are making a great impression on music fans country wide with their mix of blues influenced rock songs and ballads. None more so than with Dr Feelgood guitarist Steve Walwyn, who has become both a fan and friend of the band; joining them on stage to perform on several occasions.
As well as touring The DG’s are currently working hard on a range of exciting new projects. Chief among which is a new live session EP (with accompanying videos) due out early 2017. In addition; writing has already begun on songs which are to be used for the bands second full studio album. Estimated for release during the latter part of 2017.
It’s fair to say The DG’s have their sights set on a long and successful career in music and you can join them every step of the way by following them on Twitter, and liking their Facebook page. Be sure to check the tour section of the website for all upcoming gigs.
